Europe@feddit.org•We don’t just need electric cars, we need fewer cars - Greenpeace InternationalEnglish
1·4 days agoI know that some people will miss it and act accordingly. The car industry in Europe build up more electric car production capacity than people were willing to buy. The industry transformed faster than society. They are now correcting their plans which is so sad to see. I know that for some an electric car is just unaffordable, but for many others it is just too inconvenient, unreasonably priced or they wait for hydrogen cars (I had these discussions a lot). Climate change is what is inconvenient. There is no time too waste.

Europe@feddit.org•We don’t just need electric cars, we need fewer cars - Greenpeace InternationalEnglish
132·4 days agoI hate this sentiment so much, because it implies that everyone can just wait for change: “Just go buy another gas powered car until that rail road line is built”.
If you can afford an electric car (instead of your current gas powered car) today please buy one or you are part of the problem. If you don‘t need it anymore, because of that rail road line, sell it. Electric cars are much better for the climate & the surroundings. They can also be important for electric grid stability.
Additionally since Copenhagen was mentioned: In the last ten years car ownership in Copenhagen actually increased (https://kk.statistikbank.dk/statbank5a/SelectVarVal/saveselections.asp). Just because people take the bike every day doesn‘t mean that they don‘t own a car.
PS: I live in the city center and don‘t own a car. Never have.
You also need a license to use Redhat Linux

Electric Vehicles@slrpnk.net•Walmart added five new fast chargers to my area in Skokie, IL
3·14 days agoI assume 0.45 $/kWh? Where do you live? This seams really expensive for the USA. In Germany (where everyone is complaining about high consumer electricity prices) the price is 0.24 to 0.30 €/kWh. I always thought those were high.
Btw electricity prices in Germany have not gone up, because of the Iran war. This is because a majority is produced by wind and solar. Natural gas, oil, diesel & gasoline have gone up significantly in price.
Here is good overview (in German, but probably understandable): https://www.zeit.de/wirtschaft/energiemonitor-strompreis-gaspreis-erneuerbare-energien-ausbau

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux
6·16 days agoOfficial support & blessing is always better and involves less toil for maintainers in reverse engineering APIs and keeping them uptodate. For example it is much better if game developers take Linux support seriously than Valve running around fixing all the dumpster fires.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•GOG confirm they are working towards GOG Galaxy on Linux
2·16 days agoHeroic is an alternative frontend for digital game stores (which are not natively supported on Linux). You can sign in with your Epic or GOG account and play, update, etc. your games just like you would with Steam.
Seriously go for a long walk. It works wonders.

Chinese manufactures are subsidized and they have a regulated home market to their advantage to build from. It is a well thought out cooperation between companies & government, which the USA and the EU are lacking.

3·1 month agoSo you could buy a 24 kWh battery (still somewhat expensive) and essentially never pay for electricity again?

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Machine Reservation eBay Listings Double Retail Price as Scalpers Take Hold of Valve's New Console

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Machine Reservation eBay Listings Double Retail Price as Scalpers Take Hold of Valve's New Console
131·2 months agoThe scalper a protection is also quite bad. Valve only requires a purchase before a certain date. That means scalpers can easily reuse accounts from the Deck and Controller sales…
I said this before but (roughly) sorting the queue by money spend on the platform would make it insanely expensive to scalp, therefore eradicating the practice. Of course that would mean people (like myself) who don‘t spend a lot of money on Steam will need to wait longer, but in the fight against scalpers I think it is worth it. I hate scalpers so much.

It is a good platform definitely worthwhile the money. Especially if you already know some YouTubers who are on Nebula. I just wish you could turn off all political content. I just don‘t believe that political journalism / creator economy / influencers mix well together. This is true for YouTube as well, but because Nebula has less content there are more often recommended.
