The posters are kinda nightmare fuel.
Will talk about Linux, plants, space, retro games, and anything else I find interesting.

The mod situation has always been strange. Mods can NEVER be changed once a community is made (unless a super mod gets involved). Makes it easy for individuals to control entire communities without any say within the communities themselves (within reddit).
Lemmy is a bit better as you can just up and leave an instance community that is being strange. But its a similar issue. Voting per year (or just periodically) a mod could have good results…if done right. Im actually not sure what the best way to do it is, but having overlord mods is not the correct way thats for sure.
If the US federal gov workers get pushed out, I wonder what the implications will be on people? Thats the most “secure” job in the US by some standards.
I know the unions are already prepping and fed government shut downs are imminent.
Puppy is pretty neat.
Dont get me wrong, im happy it exists, but i feel like getting a 70-80$ monitor that is 20+ inches at is better than their offering. It will even come with a power cord.
I believe it was the /r/games ? Its been a loong while.
I once got banned from a community for sharing a zelda decompilation project on archive.org. Others have reported issues with reddit and banning people for sharing nintendo power magazines. Fun times.
Modern day internet, you can talk about things, but you have to talk around certain companies, like nintendo or else risk getting banned/taken down. But with the fediverse, i can own more of the system. If world ever goes down, I can still use my personal instance to communicate for instance.
Im not 100% sure about the monitor especially since you have to get another power adapter for 15$, but the 500 looks neat.
Interesting I’ll give it a shot.
It’s one of the reasons I linked the hn discussion. Lots of accusations going around right now. It’s unfortunate as I like that app, but this kind of splitting is important to know about.
Sometimes I wish lemmy/fediverse had an option to detect if something was on the fedi and give you the option to direct link. Would make it nicer to vote/follow.
I worked at a place with every other week Fridays off. It was amazing. People could actually go to Dr appts. Actually made us much more productive.
Why is Kaiser so high up there?
Lol they just announced subscriptions so it’s already beginning.
Yep I just go to indies now. The AAA studios feel just samey.
Yeah I bet people are just getting by with a phone. There’s an entire generation that uses phones for 95% of their computer needs.
I’m using a phone app right now haha.
Unless its for myself or my family I ant gonna do it :D
I think in retirement, my goal will be to step back from the keyboard and go fishing/gardening or something. Unless I get the itch to do coding, Im not going to do it.
Sometimes ill do TDD, sometimes ill do the opposite. When I know what something looks like or should function. Im not sure what the technical term of itis, but ive heard someone call it Scaffold testing. Its making sure all the parts work as expected (Unit and integration/e2e) for your future sanity.
TDD lets you experiment and makes multiple potential solutions to a general problem. IE starting with the end first. Scaffolding lets you create a scaffold around what you already built so its more rigid. Both have their place.
It just forced full name…
