I read a decent number of papers. If you’re looking for something specific, and abstract isn’t enough. If you want to research something specific that’s not the core focus of the paper, you at least need to skim it.
If Hank Greene is understaffed, using AI to prefilter papers isn’t a terrible use of the technology.
He didn’t state what his actual process was. People assume that just means firing out a query and no bothering to check it, he said he uses it to summarize sources to see if they are worth reading. I don’t think that’s unreasonable if he still reads them.
Regarding using it to write scripts, I think if you use LLMs to generate something you are good at making and are picky and opinionated about, the review process very quickly makes you skeptical about the output.
Before the response, IP rights and environmental effects of LLMs are completely valid and are a valid reason for opposing them. Don’t just assume someone’s using it out of laziness instead of in an attempt to scale up their own work.
I’m no political scholar, but I would rather have some improvements by people trying to make incremental progress within the existing framework than no improvement by purists.
I also am skeptical of anyone claiming a policy or political approach is inherently better and will produce positive outcomes purely on theory alone. Theory is a great guide for policies but without small scale roll outs where outcomes are measured it’s all just ivory tower navel gazing.
Also, I doubt any pure philosophy, like capitalism, communism, socialism or libertarianism will end up being the optimal solution. All are approximations of the complexity of real world sociopolitical and economic systems.
I think you can start with niches or regional groups, they then start inviting others in.
WhatsApp and Discord basically had to bootstrap themselves and did it through niches and meeting a clear market need but we’re then bought up by Facebook. There were plenty of group chat competitors and voice chat competitors.
A good product and marketing strategy can bootstrap an audience. You likely need to provide something beyond just a phone book. Even outside of Facebook there’s a million of those but getting an audience for a new product is far from impossible, tons of new games do it all the time.
Honestly, if I moved out of New York to a place that didn’t have good bagels I would probably have your opinion as well.
Sounds like they just moved the research over to isomorphic labs, also even from the onset people quickly took the original approach and paper and made their own versions tuned for their needs.
Feels more like a research project having achieved its goals, the key players moved on, and they’re closing the Deepmind part of it as it’s not really useful anymore.

Natural doesn’t supercede consent. Again, if everyone is OK with an open relationship its fine, but condoms aren’t natural and its clear that removing a condom without consent just because that is more natural isn’t ok.
That’s fine, but you need to be open about it with your partner. If they’ve consented to an open relationship, great. Otherwise its not ok.
I mean, if you’ve consented to a monogamous relationship and your partner violates that consent it’s a big deal.
If they find that certain aspects of the relationship aren’t compatible with what they want and they can’t work it out, they should leave the relationship. Notbl saying it’s easy, but that’s part of the responsibility that comes with being in a committed relationship.

The US isn’t the only country with problems. Last I checked you guys have an AfD problem following close behind. The Deutsche Bahn problems are just another indication of the same neoliberal dysfunction that caused a loss of faith in government here in the US that might hit your country next if you don’t start paying attention.
I’m not saying you can’t criticize the US, but if you’re not looking in your own backyard and learning lessons from our mistakes you’re no better than us.
To be fair most of the spreadsheet capabilities I use are cloud hosted now.
If you’re driving short to medium distances there’s only so many feasible routes so you often just go the same way regardless. You usually also knew of it was rush hour or something to avoid certain roads at certain times of day.
For road closures, they usually post detours. Only difference is if there’s an emergency closure for an immediate accident.
I think it’s not enough to just vote blue, make sure you’re going out and primarying the ones sitting on their asses cashing lobbyist checks. Not everyone has the time to go and canvas, but signing ballot petitions and voting, even early or mail in, are in most people’s grasp.
Even if you don’t kick them out of office, showing up with a strong challenger scares them into acting right and encourages more people to try and try harder.
They exist, but I feel like I could count all of the one’s I’ve seen in my lifetime on one hand, and even then people usually still tip out of habit and it generally feeling weird not to.
No, they’re not. They’re pushing on the workers who are not the ones in a position to offer fair wages. If they were on more stable economic footing, they would be able to strike and organize more easily so actively pushing on the workers directly is counter intuitive rather than pushing on the restaurants themselves. Even boycotting the restaurant completely would be more effective as that is also felt by the business owners.
The Holocaust was real, and it’s important to not forget atrocities because as we can see we slip back into them very quickly.
My main issue with HOW the Holocaust lives in the modern western conscious is that it drowns out plenty of other genocides, from the Armenian genocide and the Bengal famine up to more recent ones in Gaza and the Congo. It’s ridiculous to compare genocides as if they can be distilled to a number and compared, but the framing of the Holocaust as worse than the other genocides is so counterproductive to developing the empathy necessary to prevent this kind of thing in the future.
I mean the Holocaust literally happened and Europe and they’re full of racism against romani and recent migrants. People shit on the USA for having a checkered past but at least we know about it. The number of brits who don’t even know about their atrocities in Ireland, their backyard, is nuts. That’s not even counting what happened in their colonies. I talked with a Belgian once who wasn’t aware of how bad their colony in the Congo was.
