2·1 year agoThe canary is triggered through inaction, not action. The government would have to compel the target of the subpoena to keep updating the canary on schedule.
1·1 year agoProbably a shift from “allow by default” to “deny by default”. Instead of just letting anyone create an account and start posting, more sites will become invite-only and/or require manual approval before posts become visible.

There’s a valid point here, but also some survivorship bias. Unhappy relationships tend to decay pretty quickly unless artificially held together.
