That was for tying IE to Windows, and it was also done while there were paid web browsers competing with them. Then they forced OEM PC makers to bundle IE or get dropped as a customer for Windows licenses.
Repurposing random shit from the cryptocoin world since those projects mostly failed, and by god will they find a use for these things.
Microsoft owns most gaming PCs, too, with Windows which is increasingly ad-ridden. The existence of some Linux-based alternatives is still a small percentage compared to Microsoft’s dominance here.

I agree in principle. I’ve used Wine for games for a long time. Popular games usually worked even 15 years ago.
