    So wait… what was holding it on before? Was it literally just friction fit before? Did they even use an adhesive?

    If it was just slid on there then that is a huge oversight, one I’m sure was mentioned by at least one designer (I’d hope) but I’m sure was ignored by higher ups.

      Sounds like it was simply friction fit. An article said they started using soap during assembly to help install the part. Seems like a systemic failure at Tesla.

      I’ve heard that it was a friction fit but it was so hard to slide on in manufacturing that they started using a lubricant (soap-like) to make it easier, which obviously makes it easier to slide off too.

        Friction fit that slides immediately into the dash to keep the gas pedal locked sounds like madness to me. I’m just a carpentard though, I don’t like things that aren’t supposed to move to move ever.
