    A while back, Putin said communism was stupid. What if, perhaps he still believes that, but strategically, he sees a return to socialism as a way to gain popular support, locally and abroad, and maybe China has secretly made some diplomatic incentives for such a change?

      I think this would require substantial arguments, I don’t see it happening right now.

      Btw, there’s a movement called “РГГУ ПРОТИВ ШКОЛЫ ИЛЬИНА” - “RSUH against Ilyin school”, a movement that communists take part in (including, shockingly, CPRF people in Gosduma), brings light to the whole Ilyin stuff (tl;dr - Ilyin was a fascist, RF brought back his stuff some two decades ago, and the government’s narrative is that he was a “good, patriotic philosopher”) - I hope it amounts to something
