Meanwhile, in “a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” …

Also like it’d be so easy for the hero to not have slaves you weirdos.

I love the isekai concept, but, like, the one I came up with is the hero is an anthropologist who got hit by a bus and when they arrive in the magic world they are immediately like “oh, the bad guy can be harmed by no sword nor spear nor arrow nor mace, nor any wood or metal, nor anything which has been worked in the forge? Okay.” And then just ohks the bbeg with a knapped glass atlatl dart in the first episodes and spends the rest of the season anthropologying around hanging out with people and learning about their cultures.

shout out to that one still garbage isekai last season where the guy was like “slavery? fuck that, I’m not bringing that shit here” which was like the only time I can ever remember that happening in an anime

The amount of people who watch really gross isekais but would turn around and freak out if an English speaking show did any of the same disgusting shit really pisses me off

It is just the most base with fulfilments. It is somehow dirtier than porn. It is the cooked down concentrated version of every terrible trope in normal media. Which like, I get it. Crack and powder exist for diffent times and uses. Just acknowledge that is what isekai is ai would be able to respect it more.

“Suicide Squad Isekai is so good, Japanese anime does superheroes so much better!”

cites two short segments from an anthology movie

ignores the troubling basis for most isekai

doesn’t actually mention how this version of Suicide Squad is better than any other

They’re not sending their best, folks

Isekai is probably the worst case of people thinking a genre is defined by its name. Most of them are in no way about being from another world, and a lot of portal fantasy media is mistakenly identified as isekai even though they share pretty much no similarities with the core of the genre.
