Like his in universe purpose of pursuing freedom and achieving his dream necessarily requires that he meets and develops relationships with a diverse cast of people.
If any anime series should have a diverse cast of characters that I can think of, it’s one that’s about travel, exploration, and a multitude of people joining an ever-larger crew.
They’re enraged about “tokenism” and declare inclusion is meaningless but beneath that they’re enraged that they feel less included.
