All your content are belongs to us… sorry what they mean is "We’re always experimenting with different ways to connect our users with high-quality and helpful information. "

Quite funny how all recipe posts have (frustratingly) a ton of content before you get to the recipe I assume to assist with ranking on their search and then Google just lifts the good stuff.

I wonder what the site gets as part of the agreement.

I don’t know if I like it or if I hate it. On one hand they’re literally stealing the content off those sites, and on the other hand the sites kind of deserve it for telling me their whole life story before I get to the recipe.

Yeah, but them telling you their life stories is also Googles fault…

Really? I always assumed it was about ad revenue by making you view more webpage.

I think it’s seo and ad revenue, but who dictates the rules for ad revenue? Obviously not just Google, but yeah still pretty much at fault.

Does Google care if the content is there but hidden with CSS? I don’t think you need to actually torture the users.

That wouldnt keep users trapped on the site as long. Trapping the users on the site longer makes Google rank it higher.

I’m sure Google will treat every recipe equal and not promote only sites/creators that offer kickbacks /s

Google has been trying to steal people’s content since before they rolled out AMP. Google views users and creators both as roadblocks to their money.

Great. More 3 page life stories about someone’s partner and their fur babies and puppers (I hate that term with a passion) before you get to the recipe.

Sticking with DDG but going to retest Kagi, as DDG seems to be slipping.

I mean, whenever I use Google these days I just scroll down all the way and work my way up. It’s basically subconscious at this point and it’s surprisingly helpful. Makes Google actually useful again.
