Hahaha heck yeah. They’re insane, leggy terrors who don’t want to/can’t hurt me. I had a pet one when I lived with my folks a million years ago, u der their chest freezer. I named him Petey. He was missing one of his million legs. I loved him.

I’m terrified of everything and violence is the default. I blame my mom for watching so many horror movies when I was a kid. One time I was work and saw a shadow scurry by my foot, panicked, and immediately stepped on it. Was a mouse.

Okay but adults can choose to undo a bad habit. It doesnt take that long, maybe a month. It helps to learn about the bugs and what they do, how they live.

If I were in your shoes I think the accidental mouse killing would have been a catalyst for that. Ive never killed an animal though and I’m already vegan, so theres no way to know for sure.

No Way takes a month. Took me 6 months to set the towels the way my partner wants it. And the socks? I still miss it up if I’m not paying attention.

So fun fact, The first childhood house was infested. Apparently I suffer massive trauma from a large number of bugs falling on me from weak ceiling that I mentally blocked out. Mom thinks its why I destroy them on sight with Astartes zeal. Frankly, is this way better than when I was a child. I remember crying at the sight of a bug until about elementary. Couldn’t even see a animated 2d bug without minor panic attacks. Then fear turned to a purification crusade*. *(while Im inside, outside is all them unless mosquito, wasps, ticks…etc)

It can range in time for people thats for sure. Theres also different quality of learning. Its very important not to accidentally learn mistakes. It takes time and effort to build a habit.

I think you are trying to make the statement here that you have a justifiable fear of bugs, and that you are permitted to kill them on sight because of it.

This is essentially the justifiable racism defense but with bugs. Would you argue the same way about say a minority group if you had been victimized by minorities repeatedly as a child?

Obviously you aren’t saying racist things here, but you are saying there is a whole group of living things that you kill on sight because you had some bad experiences with them many years ago.

Justify, not really. Just saying after all the Child Therapy the impulse to destroy them for me is an improvement over the crippling fear. Based on my slow improvement with other phobias I going to need a really strong motivation to change any behavior. From my perspective, nothing is lost if every bug/rodent is removed from my home. Since there is a whole job market to remove them from homes. I guess the question I have to ask is why let them live?

Well mainly because most bugs aren’t doing anything harmful. Those removal services are to prevent damage or harm that can occur. A spider hanging out in the rafters is not hurting anyone. If the visual of a spider and a web is a problem then relocating them seems to be most reasonable.

If you have a line of ants show up, figure out where they are coming from and plug it, and then trap the ants and put them out side.

The question shouldnt be why let them live, in my opinion. It should be why should we kill that specific bug or five bugs or ten. Even a lot of those businesses that remove bugs and animals will do so non-lethally if possible. They can move whole nests in some cases

I understand you have a fear but it can’t be healthy to alleviate that fear by killing the cause of it whether its justified or not.

There is no argument in those examples. Though it did make me recall my second house was littered with ants for about a year. Ugh I forgot how bad that was. Pour cereal and bam ants. Which makes sense given grandmas food practices.

For my other phobias I ask myself the question how does my/those around me quality of life improve by getting over this and used that to fight my inner demons. I don’t see the benefits of peace yet. Keep in mind took 2 years of discussion for me to start to move with another phobia. At the very least I’m asking myself what would I need hear to change my position on this. I dk yet.
