And two other ones now link to it too. I guess I’m the benevolent dictator of formuladanking. Now we only need those pricks from Reddit to close their facsimile so that there truly is only one formuladank on the entire interwebz.

I’m a little nervous about assigning mods, but frankly I’m gonna be quite busy in the upcoming times, so I guess I could make you my chief of (Ferrari) strategy. Although, do we want an Ecclestone in F1 again? shudders Maybe Tamara Eccl, that would be fun.

(I’m just sleep deprived, not high, if anyone wonders.)

I Petition to change the title of this community to formuladank. The current title feels more like a sidebar description than a community name.

smashes hammer on the table Petiion denied HAHAHA

Ok but seriously, here’s my flimsy reasoning:

I’m gonna wait how the trends around here develop. Unlike on Reddit where there was only the sub title, here we have both “name” and “display name”.

I think the display name is a good place to enter a short description or something that explains the focus a little more.

I mean, I think we want Lemmy to be its own thing, not just a Reddit clone, right? The display name is a good spot to show off this thing can do more than Reddit. For a while I had the display name as “We are checking” (or “Are you checking?”) and we could change it often based on what’s been going on. Or just cycle the most iconic lines. The ultimate spot to meme if you will.

Also, I’d like if people were memeing all the motorsports (although that’s probably useless because nothing comes anywhere close…)

So, idk. My plan is to keep it for a bit and then maybe change it to something reflecting the next GP or whatever. And then maybe put up a poll after the situation around Lemmy stabilizes, what people think.

I do suspect it will eventually just end up as formuladank anyway, but I still wanna give it a shot.

Make some memes to boost the community so we can talk about it in a week :p

That actually seems like not a bad idea. The only reason i have my reservations about this is, that if you search formuladank on jerboa, the display name is shown, but not the name. That’s why i initially went to the Formula Dank community, not this one.

But I bow to your decision.

Yea but as long as the other subs point here, I think I can keep this experiment. I’m thinking of changing the name to RAWE CEEK on Friday and then we can do a poll about it.

That’s something I wanted to explicitly ask anyway. I thought of opening a WECcirclejerk here as well but given the small size of Lemmy currently, I’d post the occasional meme into the ether without anybody noticing.

I really wanted to do motorsportmemes, but I figured people would find fdank sooner, and by kickstarting it, I could help alleviate community fracturing - which seems to work.

So yea all motorsports. Of course, it’s really hard to beat F1 in both popularity and memebility. How many people know it’s FIM 24h in Spa this weekend? Or Super Formula… I can’t even find a way to watch the latter, never mind make memes about it :/

So, you’re not one of the banhammer mods over there?

I’m not really looking for a mod job myself and don’t really have time to actively police the sub but I’d happily delete racist posts and similar BS should I come by them.

I’ll think about it. Haven’t had time to look into the modding specifics here yet, it looks pretty coarse so far. I have only received 2 reports on my 6 comms so far and those were false alarms so I guess everyone is good to each other for now.

(Let’s see what happens after Lewis wins in Canada though.)

Gentlemen, a short view back to the past. Thirty years ago, Niki Lauda told us ‘take a monkey, place him into the cockpit and he is able to drive the car.’ Thirty years later, Sebastian told us ‘I had to start my car like a computer, it’s very complicated.’ And Nico Rosberg said that during the race – I don’t remember what race – he pressed the wrong button on the wheel. Question for you both: is Formula One driving today too complicated with twenty and more buttons on the wheel, are you too much under effort, under pressure? What are your wishes for the future concerning the technical programme during the race? Less buttons, more? Or less and more communication with your engineers?
