When Trump got elected in 2016 I thought, “Okay, now that we’ve done this everyone will see what a farce it is and never let it happen again.”

But that didn’t happen. It got worse. These kinds of people got their inch and now they’re in it for the mile. This is a “keeps getting worse” scenario unless we kneecap it now.

Same. I remember waking into my local bodega in 2016 and seeing that buffoon’s face next to giant type screaming “HE WON!! WOW!!”… First I was like, well he’s also lived in NYC, I know he hired undocumented people for some projects. He can’t get as crazy as his campaign… Right?

Then NYC had to stop ICE from posting up near our courthouses and police stations, trying to prey on people actively working with the legal system for help or to voluntarily answer for crime or mistakes.

"These jurisdictions have caused immeasurable harm to the American people and to the very fabric of our Republic.” he said, and tried to withhold federal funds from our cities.

We all shrugged at his impotent executive order, both because of how much money and self sufficiency we all provide each other. But he was always banging on our door, to steal neighbors and friends out of our communities, whether they had federal permission to be here or not.

Are we lawless for disregarding the law a bit? Maybe. But are we human-centric for giving people the chance to do right, to live and contribute to the American dream?

You decide, both I and my old city already have.
