Constant ridiculing apparently, from drivers and pedestrians and other cyclists. But more than once they found themselves banged up after accidents or other collisions where it seemed fairly clear that if they hadn’t been wearing helmets they’d have been in a LOT more trouble, so they persevered . . .
No small chance I only got born thanks to bicycle helmets.
