There are actually people in the world who put milk in the bowl before the cereal? Why? I’m genuinely curious at the rationale behind it!

I, OCCASIONALLY, am one of those people. And to me it makes PERFECT sense.

Most cereal, cereal then milk, hands down.

But what if I want a super crunchy bite of something like frosted flakes, or honey bunches, the entire time I’m eating it?

      • Pour milk first
      • Add one single layer of cereal
      • Enjoy crunchy bite of cereal for every bite
      • Add a fresh layer of cereal
      • Enjoy crunchy bits
      • Repeat until milk gone

This is what confuses me. No one is making these people work so hard. Just have a bowl of dry cereal and a glass of milk.

I was converted to milk first by a kid i was watching. It’s better for keeping your cereal harder for longer. If you’re a fan of mushy cereal then go milk second so everything gets wet. But if you’re a fan of the last bite still being crispy then milk first is the way.

They want more of the protein and fat from the milk as opposed to the sugar and carbs from the cereal.

How does that effect the order they go into the bowl though? They would still end up with the same amount of milk and cereal wouldn’t they?

IME experience, adding in milk before the cereal fools you into thinking your bowl is fuller, so you add less cereal.

Most people that put milk first actually warm up the milk in the microwave rather than put it on the stove or something like that. I personally do it because it saves on dishes

As for me, I have another reason. When you run out of cereals, do you put more in another bowl, then transfer the milk in? Obviously not, you just add it on top of the milk, which is the same thing as putting milk first Also, putting hot milk on the cereals sometimes makes them all soggy and I rather have them stay crips

I really don’t see how this debate is so heated over which step to start the cycle of cereals eating lol.

YOU DON’T EAT CEREAL WITH WARM MILK!? That’s genuinely the first time I hear that people eat cereal with cold milk. I tried it once, and it felt soulless.

I have never in my life met anyone who put hot milk on breakfast cereal lol are you maybe talking about like porridge or cream of wheat? Those are technically kinds of cereal

No just some regular cereal like corn flakes or wheat based cereals. And technically I don’t put milk on cereal, I put cereal on milk or else they get soggy.

And I hope it’s not fridge cold milk, because this seems even worse. All the warmth of a good old breakfast replaced by just cold milk is just so weird

For information, I am french so this might be why we have such a rift in cereal eating culture. And no, I’m not trolling. I’m genuinely doing this when I’m eating cereal. But now I’m wondering, why not warm milk? Is it just because no one tries or just that warming it up worsens the taste?

I’ve always eaten cold milk (yes fridge cold, the colder the better) with cereal. If I’m in the mood for a hot breakfast I generally just make something else like toast or oatmeal or eggs and bacon. I realize that you’re not trolling, this is just genuinely blowing my mind lol

Makes you put less cereal if you already filled with milk, so you eat less tasty garbage.

You could just measure how much you’re putting in. Like just put a cup of cereal and then as much milk as you want.

Ultimately anyone can eat their cereal however they want, but adding milk first doesn’t actually “make” you do anything lol

if it makes them think they already put more cereal than they atually did, it’s completely fine to do. also you wont have to clean up a cup afterwards.

and whats the difference between putting milk before or after anyways? i dont like cereal so im really curious as to why people care

It skips the “measure” part, since the bowl itself is of fixed size. But as you said, anyone’s free to spend their time however they want.
