The Boys has a lot of super creepy right-wingers who idolize the fascist characters in the show, totally oblivious that the show is making fun of them and those characters.

It’s super weird that they’re that dumb, but combined with that is just how weird and disturbing they are as people because of that.

These are the same folk who think the Colbert Report wasn’t satire or get upset that wolfenstein’s Twitter account promoted a new game about killing Nazis (all the wolfenstein games are about killing nazis).

Being oblivious to reality is a feature of Republicanism.

Take rights away from 50% of the population, be surprised that the vast majority of women don’t like rights being taken away.

No, they really don’t see it. And they instead idolize Homelander and think he’s the one that’s correct in the show and doing what’s right and what they want to do.

As a matter of fact, satire does not work. Fascists will idolize the fascists in satire, always. It feels like satire only works with people who already have an education about the dangers of fascism.

In the broken mind of a fascist, satire is actually a kind of utopia. It’s how the world is supposed to be in their twisted ideals.

        Poe’s Law per Wikipedia

Poe’s law is an adage of Internet culture which says that, without a clear indicator of the author’s intent, any parodic or sarcastic expression of extreme views can be mistaken by some readers for a sincere expression of those views.

That’s because telling people what NOT to do is pretty much never going to work. “Don’t think of a bear.” It’s better to focus on what to do and real solutions instead of criticizing alone. The Boys doesn’t offer anything in way of solutions except perhaps violence. It maligns fascists and antifascists and horseshoe theories them together.

What I’m most curious about is how much insider info related to celebrities is being released through these episodes and characters. Because THAT is actually accurate and interesting.

I mean that, reading between the lines, the character storylines are likely based on real life Hollywood rumors. I think that’s the point and why there are so many references. That implies that there really is a celebrity that had sex with an Octopus or other animal. There’s actually a (really unsubstantiated) rumor about Tom Cruise and a fish, and since the Deep is sort of made to be Tom Cruise in the Scientology cult… I think there are a lot of Easter eggs like this in the show. It’s a warning.

It’s a show about superheroes masquerading as icons of peace while behind closed doors they’re rapists, murderers, liars, and just all around pieces of shit.

Sounds a lot like most fascist ideologies and right wing politics.

It is very good, but they crossed the line for me, and I stopped watching. I’m not sure when it was crossed. I think it was s03e01 when they were running around inside of a human asshole, and then turned a person into little meaty bits all over the room. But I finished the season somehow. When another season was announced, I decided not to watch it. I do enjoy the show, but I don’t enjoy feeling like my eyes and brain have been violated every other episode.

I only ever saw the first episode and hated the guy whose girlfriend is run over. The whole character rubbed me the wrong way and I couldn’t care for him at all despite the show trying to make me care. The star light lady that was the only thing that got me, where I was like I hope she will be fine. But it wasn’t enough for me to commit to watching more.

Yea, there’s a scene in the latest season that involves her character breast feeding a grown man (who’s the show’s parody of Superman, and also kinda alt-right leaders/politicians, no less).

What strikes me as particularly dumb, apart from not recognising that the show is satire, is that her character’s motivation was to get ahead by pleasing the man in charge. Which means, even if she were in character, and ok with the ridiculous idea of providing or pretending to provide breast milk, she’d have no interest in providing any breast milk to anyone.

“I know people saw a character that I played do some really extreme things on The Boys and I don’t care if you’re in costume, I don’t care if you’re in character – it’s not OK and it’s not funny to demand those things from me in person at my booth. It’s not OK.”

“Frankly, to the person who did that repeatedly today, I made it pretty clear that it wasn’t OK and that only seemed to make this person and their friend angry. I didn’t think this needed to be explained but I was deeply uncomfortable – it was quite clear I was uncomfortable.”

Feels like this sort of behavior is the kind of thing that should get you instantly booted from the con, and have your badge revoked, and have you flagged to never be allowed to return to the con, and hell let’s just go ahead and give your information to all the other cons that keep such records so they know not to issue you a badge ever again, either. Cons are supposed to be safe and joyful places. If you violate that compact, there should be no compromise.

Quick note that I see the article is from PinkNews, who have recently had a large number of former staff come out against their leadership for transphobia, ableism, racism, misogyny, and an incredibly toxic workplace culture. This includes recordings of Cohen saying stuff that frankly promotes this sort of fan behaviour.
