Tonight is my first night home alone in my life. I’ve been alone heaps in the day, but never overnight before. Pretty exciting, yet terrifying at the same time though

I’m thinking keeping busy until I go to sleep will help, so I guess tonight is cleaning night (shamefully overdue 😭)

You’ll be fine mate. Put on some comfort tv or music and pretend someone is home but asleep.

      You got this

I hope you don’t mind my asking but how old are you? I’m just wondering how you’ve got to this point in your life never having spent a night alone. I don’t mean this rudely I’m just genuinely curious.

It’s okay. I’m 16. And how I got here without spending a night alone is just that I only lived with my mum for the first 11 years of my life and she never left me alone overnight, and in residential care you can’t be left alone ever at all for any reason

Yeah, I feel like I’m in such a weird situation where I’m deemed too young to do half the things I want to do, but old enough to live more or less by myself

I think society completely underestimates the ability of young people. Years ago you would be treated as an adult with adult responsibilities and expectations.

You can do this. 👍 🤗

You’re aware enough of how you’re feeling and you’re not afraid of it, that’s a great start! Music really helps with regulation, if you need something to zone out to, Drone Zone on soma.fm is great

Massive hunger incoming again but my hosts will be away for dinner and I can eat leftovers with abandon. And I have bought a little instant noodle cup for extra snacks. And maybe tomorrow I will get some groceries while I’m out and about. They’ll be out for dinner again so I might make some dins for myself and extra for them. Fried rice maybe. But first I’ll check if they’re okay with my using their kitchen. I know some people are picky about this stuff.

E: I’m overhearing one of them talk to a friend of theirs on the phone,

    bla bla bla

explaining positive reinforcement and how to stop being so unnecessarily harsh and critical of their slightly hyperactive and constantly inquisitive grandson, and how to celebrate and support him instead so that he naturally adjusts (I met this kid too and sat and played with him for a while). And to be more realistic about their own parenting successes and failures. And how to have good relationships with adult children who were difficult when young, how to have healthy but respectful boundaries with them when they have their own children and decide to raise them a different way…

Hearing her explain it in a way my parents generation and cultural background can understand, and skilfully countering resistance (“isn’t that spoiling the kid”, “these are just western things”) is making my heart melt and also a bit emotional for what I never had with my own family growing up… It’s very surprising because in a number of other ways this lady is quite uptight and conservative. I know she’s one of the few people my mum makes an effort to stay in touch with, maybe someday I could suggest that my mum talk to her about her own continuing conflicts …

    Aaaaaaaagh.

Family dinner degenerated into fight, again. Dad picked his side, again, and it isn’t me.

Had to make a decision on what to feed the 8 people coming tomorrow.

It will be marathon dim sims (heh) with homemade hawt chilli salt and sauce, soy sauce sprinkled w/ home chilli flakes. half deep fried, half steamed. Maybe a sneaky sausage roll.

    my mind is at rest.

Werribee gorge hike this morning. Damn it’s pretty and slightly taxing on the legs.

Also when making pizzas for dinner today I mixed some harrisa paste into the pizza sauce.

    It was divine.

There were A LOT of people dressed inappropriately. My son and I had a bit of a laugh at a few.

One lady was cracking it at her partner and I swear the dude was contemplating his life choices.

        Definitely going back again.

      Frankfurt packs and everything else.

I keep scissors near the kitchen just for that reason if a knife can’t do it.

Keep a cheap stanley knife lookalike in the kitchen drawer or utensil bucket/stand - cut the corner and then peel. I got mine from officeworks for about a dollar I think but that was a while ago. Damn useful little item. I cbf with those absurd little corner tabs etc.

Dins round at my sister’s place. Her adult son brought out some cadbury’s marvellous creations chocolate for dessert. The cheapskate. For the first time in my life I’ve eaten fizzy chocolate. The actual choc was still cheap shit. I did quite enjoy the fizzies embedded within.

Just swapped my 2 monitors over for 1 new monitor… going from dual monitors to a single monitor is weird. Add to that the new monitor is curved and I’ve never had a curved monitor. Very weird.

    Jeez it’s crisp though.

I had 2 monitors for about a month and a half before I whacked it with something by accident and it died. Going back to 1 monitor really sucked cause I do a lot of things where I need a secondary window up with info and context on things. Then I upgraded to a small curved monitor which has a worse picture quality bus is decent enough. I don’t think I could go back to 1 screen now though, I’ve integrated it into my game flows so much now. I was even considering upgrading to a 3 screen system after I was gifted a new monitor, but I don’t have much of a use of even the desk space for it

I much prefer the curved monitor over 2 monitors, not having a seam in the middle is much nicer. I don’t really like three monitors for most situations - you can’t actually focus on that wide a distance, so you have to turn your head to move from one to another, and for most things it works better to just change between windows. Moving the mouse pointer across three monitors is also pretty annoying.

    My boringness continues.

I watched a video of a shell collection, again. It was very nice. And I watched a video on competitive jigsaw puzzling. 😂 I never even knew such a thing existed until a few weeks ago. It was both boring and interesting at the same time ( I kept yelling out better strategies …lol )

Ted Cat came when I called and cuddled my hand. 😀💗😸

Bill Cat is slowly coming around. 😊 Funny boy is demanding he gets the same food as Ted. Thing is Bill has always hated tinned fish but since Ted loves it Bill wants it too. 🙄 Ted has no interest in Bill’s fave food, which is fresh beef mince for cats . They both love kangaroo crunchies.

That’s lovely to hear, very encouraging that he isn’t still holding a grudge against the newcomer. When cats refuse to get along it can be quite a drain. Maybe it’s easier in a way that they both eat the same thing now!

Just finished watching the first 3 episodes of Gen V, which is a The Boys spin-off show on Amazon Prime. So far it is excellent! I was a little worried at first because I don’t tend to gel with ‘teen’ shows at my ancient age of 40 but the satire, the characters and the story are hitting nicely.

Omg. This might be a little tmi but it makes a good story. This is what happens when you teach your kid good manners.

    All via text.
Her: These dumplings are so good
    Me: That’s good
    A little while later
Her: HELP I HAD A POO AND IT LEFT SKID MARKS. WHAT DO I DO?
Me: Wipe off as much as you can with toilet paper
    Her: IT’S INSIDE THE WATER
Then I get sent a picture of a toilet complete with offending marks.
    Me: Where are you?
    Her: At the dumpling place
Me: Leave it. Run. Don’t forget to wash your hands
    Her: OK
    Me: ok

She wouldn’t mind me tell yous this because she has a great sense of humour.

Dumping bleach in and letting it sit tends to remove all evidence with no scrubbing, but who would carry that? It’s impractical and dangerous. Even those hardcore white wearers who bring it for stain removal have it in the form of bleach pens.

(It’s also terrible for the environment. Oops.)

No foul. That’s on the restaurant for not supplying toilet cleaner or a toilet brush.

Edit: Ps. Just so you know bleach also creates dangerous gas when mixed with urine so leaving it in the toilet bowl could be dangerous if the next person lets the yellow mellow or little kids use it in the night. And don’t clean litterboxes with it

Most restaurant toilets I’ve been to have a toilet brush but when they don’t it is indeed cover-your-face-with-hoodie mortifying. Godspeed to your daughter’s reputation.

Tbh if they don’t they’re kinda bringing it onto themselves. Like how southern cross doesn’t have bins. Obviously if it’s at a maccas, it’s probably going to get nicked, but at a dumpling joint it’d probably last for a while

I know for a fact if there was a brush she would’ve used it. When the picture was loading I thought “dear God I do not need to see soiled underwear” I was ready to tell her to “abandon them”.
